Yo yo! Its been ages since our last post, really! It has been slow I suppose. So we haven't had the desire to write a lot. After saying bye to Sophia at the Delhi airport (a very near miss, too!), we spent a week in Pahar Ganj as we could not get any train to Rishakesh where we really wanted to go -up in the mountains out of the city and in this pilgrimage area. So we ended up doing the opposite by staying in the big city in a very touristy area ! Some good shopping and some nice muesli for breakfast (very refreshing change), went to the Modern Gallery of Art, Red Fort and some other things, but mostly reading and relaxing. Then: Vipassana in Rajistan (yes back to Rajistan we went), in Jaipur (aka the pink city), where I sat in silence for ten days and Jo served food, rang the morning wake-up gongs at 4am, and acted as Dhamma police when people broke the rules.
We then headed by overnight train towards the Nepali boarder where we were to meet our friends Remy and Chloe from France and head to Pokhara to stay with our mutual friend Jyoti who is teaching teenage monks English at one of the Tibetan monasteries here. She is also learning Tibetan in exchange, and working as a guide for the money side of things.
We've been here two nights now, it rained nonstop (monsoon) until this morning when we awoke to the beautiful sight of the Himalayas above that were previously covered in cloud. So beautiful! Today, we plan to go the the lake and do some walking around the area as well as go on the lake in some sort of boat (not sure which kind yet; there seem to be several options).
Jyoti is very good friends with her neighbour whom she met in Kathmandu and has known for a long time. Her name is Dawa and she is Tibetan with a little girl who is part Nepali part Tibetan. We all eat together and have huge feasts of Tibetan bread, Nepali tali, vege dishes and sweet masala tea.... My stomach is getting stretched back into size after its shinkage at vipassana (small meals and nothing after midday).
We feel very lucky to be with these people and to enjoy all the things here. We even got to ride on the top of a bus yesterday back from the market!!! the view was stunning from up there, the rushing river beside us and the lush hills around; big mountains curtained by thick cool cloud. Last night a midnight stroll before bed to aid digestion... atop a small grassy hill we talked and watched fireflys glide past us in the blackness. Some shining eyes starring at us somewhere out there and buffalo watch. I am happy they are not tigers this time of year.
ps. i might be starting to write in pigeon English- apologies :)
